The Art of Beauty: Silvia Tuthill Redefines Aesthetic Medicine With Education

by Amir Bakian

Silvia Tuthill, the passionate owner and injector at Tenth Avenue Aesthetics, has established herself as a prominent figure in the field of aesthetic medicine. With a commitment to helping clients achieve healthy and beautiful skin at every stage of life, Silvia brings a unique perspective to skin care and rejuvenation.

As a board-certified Nurse Practitioner, Silvia’s journey to becoming a leading figure in aesthetic medicine began with a dedication to her education. She holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree and a Master’s and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Stony Brook University, specializing in adult and geriatric health. Before starting her career as a Nurse Practitioner, Silvia spent five years as a Registered Nurse and intravenous therapy professional on a medical-surgical oncology unit, honing her skills in performing delicate injections with precision.

Driven by her desire to offer the highest quality care and empower others in the industry, Silvia took the bold step of creating Tenth Avenue Aesthetics Artistry & Institute, a training course dedicated to the advancement and empowerment of medical professionals by providing high-quality, hands-on training in medical aesthetics. The course not only imparts technical knowledge but also emphasizes aesthetic medicine’s artistry and facial balancing aspects.

“I started a training course because I felt like nobody wanted to train me,” she says. “People in the industry are so averse to training their potential competition that I had to scour the Earth to get the right education.”

While many other injectors will simply take your money and botch the job, Silvia’s focus goes beyond the pursuit of profit, emphasizing the importance of adverse event management, complication handling, and setting realistic expectations for patients.

“You have to pay to play in this industry,” she says. “I decided to invest my money in my education. It’s not just about a paycheck.”

While the field of aesthetic medicine has advanced significantly, Silvia also acknowledges “gatekeepers” in the industry who restrict access to potentially beneficial treatments in order to get ahead. By offering education and empowerment, Silvia breaks down these barriers and allows a wider audience to experience the transformative potential of aesthetic medicine.

Some of Silvia’s areas of expertise lie in Botox and dermal fillers, which have become increasingly popular due to their remarkable ability to rejuvenate and enhance one’s appearance. Silvia breaks down these treatments’ key features and benefits, shedding light on their safety and effectiveness.

“Botox relaxes the muscle and helps reduce wrinkles. We have dynamic wrinkles resulting from facial expressions and static wrinkles etched into the skin over time,” Silvia says. “Botox can prevent static lines by stopping muscle movement altogether.”

Hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers are a versatile tool for restoring lost volume in various areas of the face. Silvia highlights that hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in the body, making it an ideal option for replenishing the volume lost due to aging.

“Dermal fillers can be used to address concerns such as deep lines and wrinkles, hollowed cheeks, thinning lips, and sagging skin,” she says. “By strategically injecting fillers into specific areas, we can restore a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.
